WRITE AND SPEAK OUT

JASON CRAWFORD has been investigating ways to contact appropriate
government officials to register one's opinion about the current crisis. "Many
emails can be found at <http://capwiz.com/yo-demo/>," Jason writes,
"but I am told that phone calls are weighted more (since they take a little
more effort). Each phone call takes only about a minute. I believe that faxed
letters are also counted more highly than emails."

Here are some phone and fax numbers:

Office Phone Fax
President (202) 456-1414 (202) 456-2461
Department of Defense (703) 697-5737
Sen. Defense Committee (202) 224-3871
Sen. Foreign Relations Comm. (202) 224-4651 (202) 228-1608
House Defense Committee (202) 225-4151 (202) 225-9077
House Int'l Relations Committee (202) 225-5021 (202) 225-2035

* The Vice President has a phone number, but the receptionist will simply
direct you to the President's comment line.

* The Department of Justice does not have a comment line, but you can fax
a letter to Attorney General John Ashcroft's office at (202) 307-6777.

* Here is roughly the statement Jason made to each number he called:

Hello. I am calling to register my opinion on the current crisis. I want
to say that I support immediate, unrestrained retaliation against any and
all countries which harbor terrorists. Not against individuals. Not some
"criminal" investigation, as if this were a criminal act. This is an act
of war. We already know several countries that are the sworn enemies of
the US--Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, and others. Strike against their
governments. Wipe them out. I am opposed to any policies of restraint or
appeasement, and am an American citizen and I fully support the use of
    nuclear weapons.

VOTE.COM

Vote.com has an option right on their front page to "Tell Bush To Take
Strong Action In Response To Tuesday's Terrorist Attacks." (This isn't a
vote, for or against, just a way to instantly send your opinion.) [Suggested by
JASON CRAWFORD.]

GIVE BLOOD

JIM SMITH urges you to give blood.

I can attest that it is a painless procedure, and only takes an hour
or so to recover. Any hospital should be able to accept donors, but calling the
local Red Cross is probably the best way to find the closest place to go.

TURN ON YOUR LIGHTS

DAVID SANDERSON writes:

Earlier today our president said that our nation was attacked because it
is the brightest light of freedom and hope in the world. He was right. I
have decided that in memory of this black day, and in defiance of the
darkness that has set itself against us, that I will keep the outside
lights of my home on at night. I encourage and invite all Americans to do
    the same.

FLY THE FLAG

JOHN GILLIS writes "This morning, in defiance of the scum of the earth, we have
installed our large American Flag on the face of our building -- for the world to see. "
